Dean leads the foundation’s efforts in South Africa to expand education, training, and employment opportunities. He oversees initiatives that improve learning outcomes in schools serving children from low-income communities, advance data-driven decision-making in public education, increase graduation and employment rates for first-generation university students, and develop sustainable models that help young people find and stay in meaningful jobs.
Before joining the foundation, Dean was director of professional services at Itron Inc., a global technology and services company in the energy sector. He also served on the board of Ipay (Pty) Ltd, a fintech company based in Cape Town. Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade in various roles at Eskom, Africa’s largest electrical utility.
Dean holds a B.Eng. in industrial engineering and is a fellow of the Aspen Institute.
