Thashlin Govender

Head of Jobs & Livelihoods, South Africa & East Africa

Thashlin Govender leads the foundation’s Jobs & Livelihoods work in Africa. With more than 20 years of experience in economic development, job creation, and philanthropy, he partners with governments, businesses, and nonprofits to connect people to meaningful jobs and financial security.

Since joining the foundation in 2011, he has launched and expanded initiatives including Dell Young Leaders, Sikelela Scholars, Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Program, Dell Aspire Scholars, and Jobs Boost Outcomes Fund. These programs provide students with financial support and guidance to complete their education and build successful careers. He has also expanded the foundation’s efforts into East Africa, backing early-stage businesses that create jobs and strengthen local economies.

Thashlin serves on the boards of Jobs Boost and Moko Home & Living and advises Chui Ventures Fund. He previously worked as a consultant and epidemiologist. He holds a Ph.D. from Stellenbosch University and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
