Overview

After Hurricane Harvey, we fueled long-term recovery, equipping local groups with resources to rebuild stronger and more resilient communities.

Investment

We launched a $100M fund in partnership with OneStar Foundation to help communities restore homes, schools, businesses, and livelihoods.

Where We Started

After Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coastline in August 2017, the region saw an overwhelming response of emergency aid. However, as immediate relief efforts slowed in the following weeks, we recognized the critical need for long-term rebuilding and development support.

To drive sustainable recovery, we partnered with the OneStar Foundation — an organization dedicated to empowering nonprofits to maximize their impact — and launched the Rebuild Texas Fund to provide the resources communities needed to rebuild and thrive.

What We Did

The Rebuild Texas Fund raised over $100 million, backed by donations from more than 33,000 donors, including a $42 million contribution from Michael and Susan Dell. Every dollar went to organizations in affected communities.

By partnering with local organizations, we pinpointed the most pressing needs and focused on four key areas:

  • Health and housing
  • Education and childcare
  • Workforce and transportation
  • Small businesses
How It Helped

From equipping EMS teams with lifesaving tools to helping small businesses restart, and even restoring a beloved Little League field, the Rebuild Texas Fund fueled community-driven efforts to restore hope and rebuild lives.

In the three years following Hurricane Harvey, the Rebuild Texas Fund powered 290 projects across 41 counties, impacting 2.1 million Texans.

  • 265,842 people received health services
  • 3,740 homes repaired or rebuilt
  • 3,724 teachers received essential materials
  • 1,411 businesses reopened

A look back at the Rebuild Texas Fund's third anniversary in 2020, and how it helped 2M Texans rebuild homes, revive businesses, and access mental health support.
